Consultant, Mobile Sustainable Operations
Location: Washington, DC; Remote
Overview:
As a Sustainability Consultant, you will occupy a unique position within the corporate landscape—one that bridges data analytics with sustainable business practices. You will guide organizations toward informed, eco-friendly decisions, and help turn buzzwords like “decarbonization” and “electrification” into tangible actions that benefit both the planet and the bottom line.
This position will focus initially on our electric mobility work and expand to support a variety of additional projects.

Responsibilities:
Electric Mobility Planning
Electrification Strategy Development:
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, financial experts, and sustainability professionals, to help create comprehensive roadmaps for transitioning fleets to electric vehicles (EVs).
Analyze existing fleet data meticulously, considering usage patterns, routes, and vehicle types. Identify prime candidates for electrification and determine where other zero- or low-carbon alternatives make more sense (e.g., H2, renewable diesel, etc.)
Propose realistic electrification targets and establish timelines, balancing cost-effectiveness with environmental impact.
Operations and Economic Analyses:
Conduct thorough feasibility assessments, comparing EVs to traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.
Evaluate factors such as upfront costs, ongoing maintenance, fuel savings, tax incentives, and potential resale value.
Present compelling business cases to decision-makers, and be able to speak frankly about the pros and cons of proceeding with electrification plans.
Charging Infrastructure Planning:
Help strategically plan charging infrastructure deployment. Assess the current infrastructure and recommend necessary upgrades or additions.
Determine optimal charging locations based on vehicle routes, parking availability, and power capacity.
Collaborate with facilities teams to ensure seamless installation of charging stations.
Vendor Evaluation and Negotiation:
Research and evaluate EV manufacturers, charging equipment suppliers, and fleet management software providers.
Compare specifications, warranties, and service offerings. Help provide recommendations for RFP responses.
Help facilitate integration between EVs, charging infrastructure, and fleet management systems.
Additional responsibilities
Data Analysis and Interpretation:
Collect and analyze data related to economic and environmental performance for a range of clients. This includes greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption, and other relevant metrics.
Interpret these data through the lens of sustainability. What are the existing policies governing energy consumption and transport management? How do these practices impact sustainability?
Identify areas where organizations can improve their environmental footprints while enhancing operational efficiency.
Decarbonization Strategies:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement decarbonization roadmaps. These customized plans align with each client’s specific operations and industry context.
Evaluate energy usage patterns, emissions, and supply chain practices. Recommend shifts toward renewable energy sources and sustainable procurement.
Quantify the financial and environmental benefits of these strategies, emphasizing long-term sustainable growth.
Sustainability Reporting:
Prepare comprehensive sustainability reports for internal stakeholders and the public. These reports may evaluate measurable sustainability goals and communicate progress.
Advise clients on compliance requirements and best practices.
Assist with communications to promote sustainability actions and plans in an impactful, yet truthful, way
Stakeholder Engagement:
Engage employees, executives, and external partners in sustainability initiatives.
Help organize and conduct workshops, webinars, and awareness campaigns.
Embrace and foster a culture of environmental responsibility within the organization.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Business, Transportation Studies, Urban Planning, or a related field. Master’s degree in a relevant field is a plus.
Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience.
Passion for sustainability and a deep understanding of climate change mitigation.
Proficiency in data analysis tools (Excel, and preferably Python, GIS, AutoCAD and / or other relevant software).
Excellent communication skills—you’ll translate complex concepts and analysis into actionable steps.
Experience in project management or consulting is a plus
